In the water in San Diego in 1991, she and her male companions were slain by Henry Hubbard Jr., who was a former San Diego police officer and serial rapist who tried to subdue them with a gun. During the struggle that ensued, her two friends and Hubbard were shot, forcing Hubbard to flee the scene and both of them survived the assault. Hubbard was detained, convicted, sentenced to 56 years in prison for a string of rapes. Carpenter removed Hubbard's flashlight one of the police's flashlights, from the beach.   Carpenter was ranked No. Carpenter was ranked 31 in AskMen's Top 99 Most Wanted Females of 2002[3031. 44 on their 2005 list. Carpenter stated that she doesn't consider herself a sexual symbol in spite of this. Carpenter was in the cover story and in a ten-page nude photo shoot in the June 2004 issue. People magazine asked her 2005 whether she'd pose for Playboy. Playboy was something I took on for a very specific purpose. Not only was it an effective financial choice but also because of the stage I was in within my life. After having my son, I had gained 50 pounds during my pregnancy. I wanted to return to my former self. I wanted to look beautiful and sexy. I was thinking: "What if you went all out?"
